Of course I’m mostly talking about K-12, but I think the chalk on the chalkboard should read “We must fire parents from schools”. Have you ever been to a PTA meeting? It’s complete chaos & a ridiculous waste of time. Parents are way too involved in schools these days. They think they know what’s best for their child’s education and they can’t and won’t relinquish any control over to a teacher. This attitude creates a teacher who wastes too much time and energy trying to please parents and students who have a negative attitude towards educators. I’m not sure what the answer is but I know it starts with less parent involvement.

although I spend almost all of my working day on the web having fun with games like myspace poker or restaurant city, I nevertheless like to dedicate some free time to browse a few blogs sometimes and I’m pleased to report this most recent blog post is actually fairly good and really more beneficial than 50 % the various junk I read today , at any rate i’m off to enjoy a smattering of rounds of facebook poker

My wife’s a school counselor and she makes the point that we are, by law, required to test all of our kids for these types of international tests. Even the special education students and english language learners take the test. In other countries (Japan is probably the best example) they are only testing about 10% of their kids. Until we begin comparing apples to apples so to speak I hesitate to try and draw any type of conclusion from these types of tests.
